Since 2015, the Arkansas Insurance Department has saved $784,516 in personnel costs, the state agency reported. The savings are attributed to departmental efficiencies implemented by Insurance Commissioner Allen Kerr who was installed as head of the department that year.
In January 2015, there were 192 employees working for the Arkansas Insurance Department including temporary extra help and workers whose salaries were funded by federal grants but still received state benefits. The overall payroll was $9,510,446.
The department said staff numbered 162 workers with a payroll of $8,725,930 at the end of the Nov. 3, 2017, pay period.
