The American Agents Alliance reported that the six votes required to move AB 2639 (Calderon) out of the Senate Insurance Committee were secured. The Alliance-sponsored bill now makes its way to the Senate floor. The following members cast the six “aye” votes to move the bill out of committee: Nell Soto (D-Ontario), Ross Johnson (R-Irvine), Pat Johnston (D-Stockton), Martha Escutia (D-Commerce), Tim Leslie (R-Tahoe City) and John Lewis (R-Orange). The committee chairman, Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco), cast a “nay” vote. The consumer protection bill eliminates any guesswork as to whether an insurance producer is acting as a “broker” or as an “agent.”
