Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher warned employers in his state that certain workers’ compensation policies sold by American Insurance Managers (AIM) of Atlanta, Ga. may not actually exist. According to the Oklahoma Department of Insurance, a series of unauthorized certificates were issued in the name of Realm National Insurance Co. by AIM, or one of AIM’s sub producers. The certificates are thought to have been issued after Oct. 1, at which time Realm National’s parent were in negotiation with AIM over whether AIM would have the authority to represent Realm. The ODI alleged those negotiations were never finalized and AIM was never authorized to issue certificates or policies on Realm’s behalf. Oklahoma state law requires employers to carry workers’ compensation coverage. According to an AIM spokesperson, the Atlanta-based company writes a variety of workers’ comp/PEO coverages in 28 states.
