Atlantic City has decided to bill insurance companies for fire department services.
The City Council approved the ordinance this week without setting fees.
Glassboro implemented such a system in 2005.
Fire Chief Ralph Johnson told The Press of Atlantic City that the Gloucester County community collected $20,000 last year. That amounts to 5 percent of the $400,000 annual budget for the local fire department, made up of five paid personnel and 30 volunteers.
