A federal judge in New York has ordered al-Qaida, the Taliban and Iran to pay $6 billion to relatives of Sept. 11 victims for aiding in the 2001 terror attacks.
Manhattan Federal Magistrate Judge Frank Maas’ ruling Monday is largely symbolic since it would be near impossible to collect any damages.
But plaintiff Ellen Saracini tells the Daily News that she is happy about the decision. Her husband, Victor, was the captain of the flight that struck the south tower of the World Trade Center.
Judge George Daniels ruled last year on the lawsuit brought by family members of 47 victims. He said Iran and its Lebanese proxy Hezbollah aided the attacks and should pay damages.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has denied any Iranian connection in the Sept. 11 attacks.
