Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. has hired Carey S. Roberts as deputy general counsel and corporate secretary. She will report to Peter J. Beshar, executive vice president and general counsel of Marsh & McLennan.
Roberts will be responsible for overseeing a team of lawyers and paralegals who provide advice in areas including securities, M&A, employment law, benefits and compensation, privacy, e-discovery, and general commercial and corporate law matters. As corporate secretary, Roberts will act as a liaison to the MMC board of directors and provide advice on corporate governance matters.
For the past 17 years, Roberts has worked at international law firm Covington & Burling LLP. She has been a partner in the Corporate Department since 2005. At Covington, Roberts has advised a broad range of public and private companies on securities, finance, general corporate, regulatory, employee compensation and benefits, and intellectual property matters.
