Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is creating a new council to make sure the state of Connecticut meets its goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Marking Earth Day on April 22, Malloy said Connecticut has already reduced emissions to 1990 levels and is on track for being 10 percent below those levels by 2020. With the council, he said the state can reduce emissions to 80 percent below 2001 levels by 2050.
Malloy signed an executive order Wednesday creating the Governor’s Council on 国产一福利 Change. The 15-member panel will recommend policies, regulations and legislation to meet the greenhouse gas reduction goals.
Also Wednesday, state Sen. Ted Kennedy Jr. and Rep. James Albis planned to voice support for legislation ending the use of single-use bags and cosmetics that contain microbeads.
