The Prudential Insurance Co. of America announced the official opening of an offshore programming and technology development center by its subsidiary Pruamerica Systems Ireland Ltd. in Letterkenny, County Donegal.
The center has actually been operating since July, and has about 60 employees. Donegal, one of the most remote and beautiful regions of Ireland, is rapidly catching up with the rest of the country in attracting foreign investment.
Letterkenny, situated in the middle of the county, with links to both Northern Ireland and the Republic, is well situated to profit from technological development. Pruamerica will select a student from the Letterkenny Institute to train with the company each year, and is supporting local sports programs, notably the Donegal Special Olympics Committee.
Pruamerica joins a growing list of U.S. companies profiting from the highly educated Irish population, and the lowered costs of establishing cost effective technology centers in the country.
