Lloyd’s announced the appointment of Henrique de Campos Meirelles as Nominated Member of the Council of Lloyd’s, the body responsible for the management and supervision of the Lloyd’s market.
“Meirelles, whose three-year term starts on 8 April, has had a very distinguished career in finance, including eight years as Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil,” Lloyd’s said. He is currently Chairman of Lazards South America and President of the Brazilian Olympic Public Committee.
Lloyd’s Chairman John Nelson expressed his delight that Meirelles will be joining the Council of Lloyd’s; noting that he is a “highly-regarded figure in the South American financial sector and his extensive international experience will be of great value to Lloyd’s.”
Meirelles said he was equally pleased to be joining the Council of Lloyd’s “at such an exciting time.” He added that in the Vision 2025 program, “Lloyd’s has identified strategic opportunities to extend its business in new high-growth international markets such as South America. I look forward to helping Lloyd’s strengthen its position as the global center for specialist insurance and reinsurance.”
Meirelles began his career in financial services at Bank of Boston where he held a number of positions including twelve years as Head of the bank麓s Brazilian subsidiary and three as President and COO of the corporation. He then spent eight years as Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil. He is currently Chairman of Lazard South America, Chairman of the Advisory Board of J&F Participa莽玫es, Senior Adviser to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co and President of Brazil’s Olympic Public Committee.
