The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) announced a Springfield man has been sentenced for a misdemeanor charge of workers’ compensation fraud.
Jeff Hamm was sentenced to three months incarceration, a $300 fine and court costs. The incarceration was suspended provided the fine and court costs are paid by Jan. 7, 2005. At the hearing, Hamm paid $11,742.01 restitution to BWC.
The BWC’s special investigation unit (SIU) learned of possible fraud by Hamm when the bureau’s automated detection & intelligence team (AD&I) administered a cross match with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. The cross match reportedly indicated Hamm was working while receiving workers’ comp benefits and the SIU confirmed he was employed by K-Force Professional Staffing as a registered nurse.
Hamm suffered an ankle injury in October 2001 while working for Madison Correctional Facility.
