The Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Services (OFIS) has issued a Cease and Desist order against a Roseville auto repair shop for selling Michigan no-fault auto insurance certificates without a license.
David Pearson, owner of Pearson Service Center in Roseville, has been illegally selling bogus no-fault certificates under the name Ultimate Casualty Insurance from his auto repair shop.
Pearson provided OFIS with a list of 63 individuals who purchased the bogus certificates between May 24, 2006 and September 20, 2006. OFIS has contacted all of the individuals and urged them to immediately purchase valid auto insurance; however, it is likely there are more drivers who are unaware they have purchased illegal certificates.
“All drivers who bought a certificate from Ultimate Casualty Insurance need to get proper auto coverage immediately,” Commissioner Linda A. Watters said. “This bogus insurance will provide zero protection in case of an accident.”
The Pearson Service Center is licensed as an auto repair facility through the Michigan Secretary of State. OFIS has notified Secretary of State officials of the illegal sales of no-fault certificates at the service center.
