An auction in Gillette, Wyo. raised $56,000 for ranchers in South Dakota who lost nearly 20,000 head of cattle in a blizzard last month.
The Gillette News-Record reported nearly 500 people attended Saturday’s auction at the Camp-plex events center.
Co-organizer LeAnna Beck says a lot of pies were auctioned off and not one pie sold for less than $250.
The live auction raised almost $20,000 and a silent auction about $15,000.
Organizer Amanda Geer says many others simply donated money for the relief effort. Those donations totaled $17,000 by the end of the night.
Ranchers in Wyoming were much less affected by the storm that dumped up to 4 feet of snow in areas to the northeast.
