In an effort to inform people about ergonomics and OSHA’s involvement, ErgoWeb Inc. added The Standards Watch, a resource page dedicated to providing companies with complete information and understanding of the pending OSHA ergonomics standard, to its website www.ergoweb.com.
The Standards Watch contains updated news, statistical data, information on how the standards will affect companies and important links. OSHA plans to issue a final ergonomics standard by the end of this year. The standard addresses work-related musculoskeletal disorders such as back injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome.
According to OSHA, fewer than 30 percent of general industry employers have effective ergonomics programs in place today. Under the proposed ergonomics program standard, an average of 300,000 workers can be spared from painful, potentially disabling injuries, and $9 billion can be saved each year.
