Blain K. Rethmeier has joined the American Insurance Association (AIA) as senior vice president for public affairs.
Rethmeier joins the AIA from the White House where he served as special assistant to President Bush for communications. In this capacity, he directed public affairs for the National Economic Council and Homeland Security Council. He also served as a White House spokesman for the public and news media and coordinated federal agencies on strategic message approach and policy matters with respect to domestic and international issues.
Prior to joining the White House, Rethmeier served as press secretary for the Senate Judiciary Committee. During his time on the committee, he managed the communications associated with the confirmation hearings for John G. Roberts, chief justice of the United States, and Samuel A. Alito, associate justice of the Supreme Court.
Prior to joining the Senate Judiciary Committee, Rethmeier worked in the U.S. Department of Justice. Previously, he was communications director for the House Government Reform Committee and served as press secretary to Rep. Scott McInnis, R-Col. Rethmeier began his career in Washington working for Rep. Mary Bono, R-Calif.
