Northland Insurance, a subsidiary of Travelers, announced the addition of Identity Theft Expense Reimbursement Coverage to transportation policies where available, at no additional charge.

“Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the country, and individuals in the trucking industry are particularly susceptible,” said Dale Schueffner, vice president, Agency Services, Northland Insurance. “We created the Identity Theft Expense Reimbursement Coverage to assist customers who have been victims of identity theft to minimize their losses so they can once again focus their full attention on their transportation business.”

It can take identity theft victims more than 80 hours to resolve issues that stem from the fraud. For truckers, who make their living on the road, this can be especially devastating. Losing 80 hours behind the wheel has a financial impact for the trucker personally as well as on their transportation business overall. Northland’s new offering reimburses policyholders for the time and out-of-pocket expenses incurred while restoring their credit history and financial reputation as a result of an identity theft loss.

While banks and credit card companies only reimburse individuals for direct financial loss, Identity Theft Expense Reimbursement Coverage provides reimbursement up to $2,500 for expenses incurred as the direct result of any one identity theft. Covered expenses include lost wages as a result of wrongful incarceration or time taken off of work to correct the fraud. Additional covered expenses include: Costs for daycare and eldercare; Notary and certified mail charges; Fees to reapply for loans; Long distance phone charges; Reasonable attorney fees incurred, with prior consent.
