The Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (The Big I) on Wednesday released a video statement from Chairman John Costello related to the organization’s move to relinquishing retiring chief executive Bob Rusbuldt of his duties immediately after a conference in April.
“While a difficult decision, it was necessary,” said Costello, whose 2-minute video statement largely echoed one previously released by Big I on June 29.

In April, Rusbuldt interviewed Fox News host Jesse Watters on stage at the Big I Legislative Conference in Washington. According to a CNN report published a day before Big I’s statement, Watters during the interview with Rusbuldt “made a crude comment questioning the gender of Vice President Kamala Harris.”
The organization has not made clear the details of any controversial statements by Rusbuldt but Costello again said the Big I does “not in any way condone or agree with any of Mr. Rusbuldt’s statements, but we must take full responsibility for them.”
“As your chairman, I will make sure nothing like this ever happens again,” Costello said.
