Louisiana Parish Audit Finds Most School Bus Drivers Not Drug-Tested

An internal audit has found that the Caddo Parish school system has been testing far fewer bus drivers than it should for drugs and alcohol.

Federal regulations require random testing each year of at least half the employees with a commercial driver’s license for drugs. At least one-quarter must be tested randomly for alcohol.

But The Times reports that the audit found that only 15 percent of the bus drivers were tested for alcohol and 17 percent for drugs.

The auditors also found that none of the driver education teachers got either test 鈥� and that 41 percent of the transportation department employees chosen for tests were never notified.

The report noted that administrators sometimes exclude employees selected for testing, but did not give any reasons for some exclusions.
