Forecasters say at least two tornadoes hit parts of north and east Texas in a storm system that damaged dozens of homes and left one person hurt.
The National Weather Service has confirmed twisters struck Wednesday in the Heritage Trace subdivision of Fort Worth and also in Canton, 55 miles (88 kilometers) east of Dallas. Meteorologist Patricia Sanchez in Fort Worth said Thursday that crews were assessing damage.
The emergency management coordinator for Kaufman County said Thursday that at least 25 homes were damaged or destroyed in Mabank (MAY’-bank), in the Cedar Creek Country Club subdivision. Steve Howie (HOO’-ee) says one person was treated for minor cuts.
The severe weather gave way Thursday to sunny skies and mild conditions in the area, with forecasters predicting a chance of showers Friday.
