San Elizario, Texas mayor Isela Reyes was arrested Tuesday for insurance fraud, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.
The FBI West Texas Border Corruption Task Force arrested Reyes for insurance fraud of over $2,500 and under $30,000. The offense occurred prior to Reyes becoming the Mayor of San Elizario.

The arrest stems from an investigation in which the Sheriff’s Office received information that Reyes filed a false insurance claim.
Reyes was booked into the El Paso County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
San Elizario is a town of approximately 10,000 people situated on the Rio Grande.
