Kentucky officials arrested a Fort Mitchell, Ky., man after being charged with issuing fake insurance cards and accepting premiums from 43 individuals for fake auto insurance.
The Oct. 4 arrest of Michael Leroy Fleckinger, 28, came after a three-month investigation by the Kentucky Office of Insurance Fraud Investigation Division.
KOI charged Fleckinger with 13 felony counts of insurance fraud for allegedly taking more than $9,000 in premiums from individuals.
The KOI investigation began in June when a northern Kentucky consumer called the Consumer Protection and Education Division to report that she had gone to the Boone County Clerk’s office to transfer the title on a vehicle. She was told that the insurance card for Fleckinger’s business, Amtrek Two Insurance Co., was not valid. The company is not authorized to sell insurance in Kentucky and Fleckinger is not a licensed agent.
“We are aware of one person who has a pending claim,” said KOI Executive Director Julie Mix McPeak. “We hope that is the extent of the damage to consumers. This case should be a reminder to all consumers to ‘Stop, Call and Confirm’ before purchasing insurance coverage.”
If convicted, Fleckinger could face a fine of up to $10,000 for each count on which he is convicted and a prison term of up to 20 years, according to KOI.
