Motorcycle-related fatalities are declining in West Virginia.
Only seven motorcycle-related fatalities have occurred in the state so far this year.
Governor’s Highway Safety Program manager Barbara Lobert says 25 motorcycle-related fatalities occurred in 2009, down from 52 in 2008.
Lobert attributes the decrease to better training and more riders wearing helmets.
Two of this year’s fatal accidents occurred in Harrison County. Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker and Clarksburg Police Chief Marshall Goff say there also has been a series of nonfatal accidents.
Walker and Goff attribute the accidents to speed, inattention and an increased number of motorcycle riders.
