Newly inaugurated Insurance Commissioner Harry Low announced plans yesterday to reorganize the California Department of Insurance (CDI).
Low, who has been meeting with employees in the CDI’s offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento, said the streamlining changes will facilitate more efficient service to Californians. Changes include:
1) Creation of an Office of Community and Constituent Affairs.
2) Creation of a Special Projects Office.
3) The Conservation and Liquidation Office will report directly to the Commissioner’s Office and will be a member of the executive staff.
4) The Administration Branch expanded to include the Producer Licensing Bureau and is now called the Administration and Licensing Services Branch.
5) The Fraud Division combined with the Investigations Bureau to create the Criminal Investigations Branch.
6) Creation of an E-Government and Technology Solutions Branch.
7) Creation of a Strategic Planning, Policy and Research Branch.
“Listening to the valuable counsel fo the employees, the current executive staff members, and especially my chief deputy and former Acting Insurance Commissioner Clark Kelso, has led me to believe that with moderate changes we can once again make the California Department of Insurance the best insurance regulatory agency in the nation,” Low said.
