Gary Mendoza, Republican Nominee for California Insurance Commissioner, captured the endorsement of 22 of the 32 Chapters of the Mexican-American Political Association, Aug. 17 at MAPA’s 43rd Endorsement Convention.
“I appreciate the historical importance of MAPA, and I am honored that all 22 participating Chapters that made an endorsement, representing two-thirds of the independent MAPA Chapters in California, endorsed me,” Mendoza remarked.
For internal MAPA reasons, the 43rd Endorsement Convention was canceled. As a result, the MAPA leadership declared an open endorsement process, in which each of the Chapter Presidents present could hold a vote to determine which candidates would be endorsed.
All 22 Chapter Presidents participating in the convention voted to endorse Mendoza in his bid to become California’s next Insurance Commissioner.
Mendoza consultant, Kevin Spillane added, “This endorsement from 22 chapters of MAPA, a predominantly Democratic association, is a clear indication that Gary Mendoza has cross-over appeal. The members of MAPA recognize that Gary Mendoza has a proven record of consumer protection and will represent the interests of the Latino community, as well as all Californians, as our next Insurance Commissioner.”
