Hoping to reduce distracted driving, Arizona transportation officials are promoting the state’s 14 highway rest areas as safe places to make phone calls, send texts and check email while traveling.
According to the state Department of Transportation, new “Safe Phone Zone” signs are going up in rest areas under a partnership with Geico and Infrastructure Corp. of America. That Brentwood, Tenn.-based company maintains Arizona’s rest areas.
ADOT and the companies held a news conference Tuesday in Phoenix to announce the new labeling.
